Best Comfort Food Recipes
Now we are into deep winter. The air temperature in Minnesota last night was -19°F! At times like these, we all need to warm up inside and out. And there is no better way to do that than making these delicious best comfort food recipes.
We all need comfort, of course, but especially now when conditions are so fraught. The future seems uncertain. So control what you can!
Everyone’s definition of comfort food is different. This is mine. First, the recipe must be easy to make. When you need comforting, you don’t want to spend a lot of time chopping and mixing, then waiting for the food to bake or cook (although for some people, just puttering around the kitchen can be comforting). Second, the food must be delicious. For me, that means no spices, off-putting flavors, or weird ingredients. I want familiar, easy foods. And finally, the food must evoke some good memories. We all remember our mom’s meatloaf, or the special chili your aunt made, or your grandmother’s cookies. Those foods all define comfort.
So enjoy these recipes and stay warm!
Best Comfort Food Recipes
I developed this recipe as a variation on Pizza Spaghetti Style. It’s rich, warm, creamy, and flavorful, packed with bacon and veggies. This is my number one comfort food recipe.
Even though this is not a hot recipe, chicken salad is supremely comforting. Make a big batch and stick it in the fridge and you never wonder what you can eat. Make sandwiches and wraps with it. Eat it on top of some crisp lettuce. Or just snack right out of the bowl (don’t tell anyone you do this).
This wonderful recipe combines spaghetti, ground beef, cheese, and pepperoni to make a fabulous casserole that feeds a crowd. Another comfort? You can eat leftovers for several days.
This super simple recipe is simply eggs baked with browned sausage and cheese. It’s perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or dinner. Yum.
Creamy and Beefy Baked Spaghetti
Baked spaghetti is wonderful because, again, it makes a bunch and it’s so easy to serve and eat. This recipe starts with leftover cooked pasta, but you can certainly cook pasta and make this wonderful dish.
In the Midwest, this recipe is IT. A creamy beefy mixture is topped with crunchy tater tots. What could be better?
Risotto is comforting, of course, but for some people standing at the stove stirring for 20 minutes is not. This recipe, for baked risotto, solves all your problems.
Baked Chicken and Rice Casserole
Broccoli, rice, and tender chicken is wrapped in a rich cream sauce in this easy recipe. I use frozen precooked rice to make it even easier.
I would eat this recipe every day in the winter. It’s just fabulous with meatballs, lots of veggies, and dollops of mashed potatoes as the crowning finishing touch.
If you want comfort fast, there’s nothing better than Classic Carbonara. All you need is some spaghetti, bacon, eggs, and cream and you’re good to go.
Grilled Havarti Bacon and Apple Sandwiches
Of course a sandwich can be comforting! Serve this with a bowl of tomato soup right out of the can for a super quick and wonderful meal.
I think this is one of the easiest recipes on the site. All you do is combine canned baked beans with frozen meatballs and some sautéed onions, with ketchup and mustard. Bake it and sit down to a bowl of comfort.
No comfort food list would be complete without this recipe. It’s simple, but well seasoned. It’s easy to make and perfect served with scalloped potatoes or mashed potatoes. I love it.
‘Nuff said.
